JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska - Despite steady rain, two crews from the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities, Alaska Organized Militia, and City and Borough of Juneau powered through debris pickup in the Mendenhall Valley, Alaska, Aug. 19, 2024. In response to the recent glacial outburst flooding, the State Emergency Operations Center activated 60 members of the Alaska Organized Militia—including the Alaska National Guard, Alaska Naval Militia, and Alaska State Defense Force as part of Joint Task Force – Juneau to aid in disaster debris removal.
