New state Tuition Reimbursement Program (TRP) expands education opportunities for servicemembers

By Seth LaCount Alaska National Guard

The Alaska National Guard education services recently rolled out its newest education benefit, the Alaska State Tuition Assistance Reimbursement Program.

This benefit is available to Alaska Air and Army Guardsmen and members of the Alaska Naval Militia and offers expanded benefits for students interested in attending academic institutions in Alaska.

“This program allowed me to finish my degree quicker without having to pay out of pocket and only relying on tuition assistance,” said Alaska Army National Guard 1st Lt. Austyn Haider, 49th Missile Defense Battalion who is currently stationed at Ft. Greely. “It was on of the easiest processes I have experience and I would highly recommend this program for anyone who qualifies for it.”

The program offers up to 36 credit hours per fiscal year and cover 100 percent of tuition and fees for certificates and licensures for trade and vocational schools, as well as undergraduate and postgraduate degrees from Alaska colleges.

“We’re really excited to get the word out about this new program,” said Sgt. First Class Lina Chausse, the AKARNG Education Services Officer. “This is a tremendous benefit for our Alaska servicemembers and offers opportunities for both new students and those already pursuing a degree or certificate.”

The TRP is dependent on availability of funds and applications are processed on a first-come, first-serve basis after following priority categories.

Course completion must fall within the current state fiscal year, which runs from July 1 to June 30.

For application information please contact the AKARNG Education Services Officer Sgt. First Class Lina Chausse at lina.m.chausse.mil@army.mil or (907) 428-6477
