In a solemn gathering at the U.S. Navy Reserve Center on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, sailors from the Alaska Naval Militia and U.S. Navy Reserve assembled Jan. 24, to pay homage to their fallen comrades lost 82 years ago.

JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska - U.S. Navy Reserve Yeoman 2nd Class Mathew West cradles the U.S. flag while participating in a remembrance ceremony at the U.S. Navy Reserve Center on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska, Jan. 24, 2024. Sailors with the U.S. Navy Reserve and Alaska Naval Militia led a Two Bell Memorial Ceremony and raised the flag in honor of the S-26 submarine and crew who were lost Jan. 24, 1942.
