JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska - Alaska National Guardsmen with the 2nd Battalion, 211th Aviation Regiment, deplane all terrain vehicles from a CH-47 Chinook near Deadhorse, Alaska, in support of Exercise Arctic Eagle, Feb. 25, 2020. Alaska’s Arctic territory presents unique challenges for U.S. forces as 80 percent of its terrain is off the road system, requiring military forces to rely on a combination of fixed and rotary-wing aircraft, the river system, snow machines and Small Unit Support Vehicles (SUSVs) to access remote areas.
