Retired 176th Wing PJ, firefighter partners with Guardian Angels for rescue

JOINT BASE ELMENDORF-RICHARDSON, Alaska - Michael Wayt is a firefighter with the Anchorage Fire Department Station 9C and is a Front Country Rescue Team leader. Wayt is a retired Alaska Air National Guard senior master sergeant who was a pararescueman with the 176th Wing before he retired in 2003. Wayt’s team rescued a family of four Aug. 15, 2020, at Beluga Point off the Seward Highway. When one of his team members was injured during the rescue, a 176th Wing HH-60G Pave Hawk helicopter carrying pararescuemen launched from Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson and extracted the injured firefighter.
