Laile Fairbairn, managing partner of Spenard Roadhouse, Snow City Cafe, South Restaurant + Coffeehouse and Crush Wine Bistro, and Lexa Gokey, chef at the Bridge Seafood Restaurant, watch a culinary demonstration by Alaska National Guard culinary specialists on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, May 14. The demonstration offered local businesses a behind the scenes look at the Alaska Army National Guard culinary career field to introduce employers to the new Partnership for Youth Success program. The PaYS program is a strategic partnership between the Army National Guard and a cross section of private businesses, universities, and public institutions. It provides Alaska’s newest Citizen-Soldiers the opportunity to increase their prospects for potential civilian employment while serving their country.
