FORT WAINWRIGHT, Alaska –
Alaska Air and Army National Guardsmen from across the state and 11th Airborne Division Soldiers from Fort Wainwright trained and competed against each other at the Alaska National Guard’s Adjutant General Match at the Fort Wainwright Range Complex June 1- 4, 2023.
The TAG Match, hosted and organized by the Alaska National Guard’s Marksmanship Program, is a four-day event that challenges competitors through several rifle and pistol matches designed to test their skills in reflexive fire and precision shooting.
Team Alpha, 49th Missile Defense Battalion (GMD), from Fort Greely, won the TAG Marksmanship Trophy – presented to the highest combined scoring Alaska National Guard team.
Arctic Wolves Team A from 1st Brigade, 11th Airborne Division, was announced as the General George Patton Match Winner for the highest combined score. The top three individual winners were:
First place – Cpl. Connor Johnson, 1st Brigade, 11th Airborne Division
Second place – 2nd Lt. Kyle Rogers, 49th Missile Defense Battalion (GMD)
Third place – Staff Sgt. Phillip Cho, 1st Brigade, 11th Airborne Division
Throughout the match, troops sharpened their marksmanship training and engaged in healthy competition. The highest scoring Alaska National Guard contenders were also selected to represent the state in national competitions.
The top 20 best AKNG shooters received a “Governor’s Twenty” tab that they can wear on their uniform. The Governors Twenty Tab is a state-level National Guard award created in 1968.
