A Trip to ChalleNGe
113th Mobile Public Affairs Detachment
March 13, 2014 | 4:36
Documentary on the Puerto Rico National Guard’s Youth ChalleNGe Academy.
The Puerto Rico National Guard’s Youth challenge Academy is part of the Guard’s civil mission to help school dropouts between the ages of 16 and 18. Its core components are: academic excellence, life coping skills, job skills, health and hygiene, responsible citizenship, service to the community, leadership and followership, and physical fitness.
During their graduation, the top ten GPA’s received a prize. These ten cadets visited several cities in the United States.
“Trip challenge” is unique, no other state or territory has done something like this. This trip was possible thanks to the funding of the Puerto Rico National Guard Youth Programs Corporation. Since no federal or state funds are used for an event like this, the Corporation raises funds through several activities with the Guard to help the kids of ChalleNGe. The Puerto Rico National Guard’s Youth ChalleNGe Academy found an innovative way to reward those who left school but found an opportunity in challenge to move ahead in life as an exceptional citizen. Available in high definition.
