Fall Creek Goes to the Bottom for Top Fish Passage Performance
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Portland District
Jan. 10, 2013 | 3:23
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers drew down Fall Creek Reservoir east of Eugene, Ore., all the way to the historic streambed in December 2012 to provide better downstream passage for endangered juvenile spring Chinook salmon. Lowering the surface of the reservoir allows the salmon, which prefer to swim in the top 20-30 feet of the reservoir, to more easily find and pass through the dam's regulating outlets.
