Exercise Joint Warrior 151 – B-Roll and Soundbites
Natochannel
April 14, 2015 | 2:07
Exercise Joint Warrior 151 is being conducted in Scottish waters. Bad weather leads to the cancellation of the exercise planned for that day. Despite bad weather conditions, pilots and engineers from USS Vicksburg’s Air Department stay active and ready to react. Includes soundbites from Rear Admiral Brad Williamson, commander of the NATO Maritime Group 2 (SNMG 2), and Lt. Cmdr. Carlos Esquivel, head of the Air Department of the USS Vicksburg Flagship of SNMG2
1. (00:00) Soundbite. Rear Admiral Brad Williamson. Commander of the Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 (SNMG 2):
“As I say to my guys all the time, the weather provides a training opportunity that we cannot create for ourselves. And so, when you have rough seas, high winds, low visibility, I think that’s training that you can’t get unless it is given to you and so, even though it may interrupt some of the schedule training that we have, it provides us training that we can’t get otherwise. And when we can exercise in this, then when it’s nice out, it’s easy to exercise.“
2. (00:28) Soundbite. Lieutenant Commander Carlos Esquivel. Head of the Air Department of the USS Vicksburg Flagship of SNMG2:
“Days like this, with low ceilings and low visibility, it’s a safety concern for the helicopters, so we don’t fly and we can’t fulfill our tasking due to maintaining safety. On days when we don’t fly, we study for the next tasking, we study for the next CASEXs or SURFEXs or anything that the captain is gonna order for us, we are ready for it. We are standing by, we are always on alert and ready to do his tasking.”
3. (01:14) Bad weather conditions.
4. (01:18) Engineers from USS Vicksburg’s Air Department conducting maintenance.
5. (02:13) Bad weather conditions.
