Colorado National Guard to support Hurricane Irma response efforts
Colorado National Guard
Sept. 10, 2017 | 3:38
Colorado Air National Guard sends elements of the 233rd Space Communication Squadron, Greeley, Colorado, to Mississippi in preparation for response efforts after Hurricane Irma passes over Florida.
They small team loads their equipment aboard a West Virginia Air National Guard C-17 to pre-position to Mississippi, then move into Florida after Hurricane Irma passes.
Capabilities of the Squadron include signal interoperability, meaning they can relay and "translate" various
radio signals to first responders which may be using disparate equipment.
They have the ability to restore communication quickly should any equipment in Florida be disabled or
destroyed by Hurricane Irma.
