836th Transportation Battalion hosts a tour for JGSDF Transportation School
U.S. Army Garrison - Japan
Oct. 31, 2016 | 2:43
Narration:
Sixteen students from the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force’s Transportation School visited the 836th Transportation Battalion at Yokohama North Dock as part of their class to learn about the U.S. Army’s transportation system.
Interview: Capt. Yumika Sekoguchi, Instructor, JGSDF Transportation School
Visiting the 836th Transportation Battalion is an annual event for our class. The purpose is to learn about our partner the U.S. Army and about this transportation unit. Learning about the U.S. Army Transportation and its capabilities will help students with their first assignment after graduating this school.
Narration:
Upon arrival, students received a mission briefing from Lt. Col. Clydea Prichard-Brown who explained the capability of the 836th transportation battalion and the function of Yokohama North Dock. They also toured the installation and learned about port operations.
At the end of the day, they had an opportunity to see the USNS Montford Point, a historical ship named in honor of the African American Marine Corps recruits who trained from 1942 to 1949 at Montford Point Camp in North Carolina.
Interview: Lt. Col. Clydea M. Prichard-Brown, Commander, 836th Transportation Battalion
Interview: 2nd Lt. Akihiro Ooki, Student, JGSDF Transportation School
I am impressed at how they accomplish their daily mission with limited personnel as well as their efficient system in covering such a huge area. Their methods and systems are very advanced and I feel we can learn from them.
Interview: 2nd Lt. Masaru Saito, Student, JGSDF Transportation School
I always had an image of the U.S. Forces that were like the Special Force type of units which you see in the movies. However, I learned a lot form the briefings I received today. I think this is a great opportunity for us to learn from each other as allied partners.
Narration:
The Japan Ground Self-Defense Force’s Transportation School was established in 1952 in order to teach students about military transportation.
Interview: Lt. Col. Clydea M. Prichard-Brown, Commander, 836th Transportation Battalion
