Command Senior Enlisted Leader of the Alaska National Guard

Command Sergeant Major Julie A. Small is the Command Senior Enlisted Leader for the Alaska National Guard, headquartered on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. She represents the highest level of enlisted leadership and oversees the combat readiness, effective utilization, professional growth, health and welfare for over 4,100 servicemembers throughout the state, and federal missions worldwide. She serves as a special staff advisor and critical link between the Adjutant General and all matters affecting the enlisted force and their families.

Command Sgt. Maj. Small was born in Salinas, California and raised in Alaska where she enlisted in the Alaska Army National Guard in March 1995. She completed Army Basic Combat Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and Clerk Typist Advanced Individual Training as well as Personnel Service Sergeant Course at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. She resides in Wasilla, Alaska with her husband Senior Master Sgt. Tyson Small, Alaska Air National Guard. Together, they have three children, four grand-daughters, and one grand-son.
