Col. James Palembas

Assistant Adjutant General - Army, Alaska National Guard

and Commander, Alaska Army National Guard

Col. James M. Palembas is currently the Chief of Staff of the Alaska Army National Guard. Palembas joined the Alaska Army National Guard in 1990 and completed Officer Candidate School in 1994. He received his commission as Second Lieutenant in the Ordnance Corps. He is a graduate of the Quartermaster Officer Advanced Course, Support Operations Course, Command and General Staff College, Command and General Staff College Intermediate Level Education, Advanced Operations Course and U.S. Army War College. Palembas holds a Master of Science Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Utah State University and a Master of Arts Degree from the U.S. Army War College. His previous assignments include Detachment Commander, Maintenance Platoon Leader and S1 Officer in the 297th Support Battalion, Assistant S4 in the 207th Group, Company Commander of the 297th Support Battalion, Battalion Transportation Officer, Support Operations Officer for the RC South and West in Afghanistan, Company Commander of Joint Force Headquarters, Company Command of the 207th Brigade Support Company, the BFSB S4, Maintenance Team Chief, Surface Maintenance Division Chief and Deputy G4 in the DOL, Battalion Commander of the 761st MP Battalion, and the Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics.
