The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Smilax worked with the North Carolina Department of Cultural Resources to retrieve five cannon's from the pirate ship Queen Anne's Revenge, Oct. 28. Edward Teach, better known as Blackbeard the pirate, captained the Queen Anne's Revenge for more than a year before the ship ran aground and sank in Beaufort Inlet, N.C.
